![]() ![]() The arrest widens a scandal that has already damaged the reputation of the BBC and the legacy of Savile, the former DJ who was one of the corporation’s top presenters. ![]() Mark Williams-Thomas, the documentary maker who broke the story on ITV, wrote on Twitter yesterday: “The arrest of Gary Glitter will be followed by others – including unknown as well as known people of significant standing.” But police have made it clear that other suspects will face questioning in the coming days and weeks. It is the first arrest by officers from the newly-formed Operation Yewtree task force. ![]() He was questioned for just under 10 hours and then released on police bail.Ī Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “A man has been bailed to return to a police station in mid-December pending further inquiries.” Later, a team of detectives searched Glitter’s house and seized a number of items,1 which were carried out in a black sports bag and a bin bag. He was accompanied by a detective and made no comment before he was driven away. He was seen leaving his home dressed in a hat, sunglasses, dark coat, black gloves and scarf. Glitter was arrested on suspicion of “sexual offences” at 7.15am at his home in Marylebone, north London, and taken to a police station in the capital. Savile and the producer are suspected of being at the heart of the alleged paedophile ring. It is understood officers from Operation Yewtree are also close to arresting a former BBC producer who worked with Savile for a number of years. The 68-year-old former glam rock star was detained by detectives who are hunting other members of an alleged sex ring at the heart of the BBC. Jimmy hosted 'Top of The Pops" and the juvenile "Jim'll Fix It". Savile died last year at age 84, and hundreds have stepped up to say they were abused by Seville and others.
